The Graduate Program in Gender, Feminist and Women's Studies offers an MA and a PhD to full-time and part-time students. Our Program is fundamentally interdisciplinary in formation and practice. One of our primary goals is to develop and apply a feminist analytical perspective to teaching and research on women and gender as they intersect with sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, ability, and.

Ph.D. Students in Women's and Gender Studies must complete Written and Oral Qualifying Examinations within 12 months of the completion of course work (minimum 39 credit hours) and prior to admission to candidacy status. Qualifying exams include a written component and an oral component to demonstrate mastery of the field of Women’s and Gender Studies, expertise in a specific area of interest.

The student completes the PhD Dissertation Supervisory Committee Approval Form and submits it for approval to the Graduate Study Committee and the Director of the Graduate Program in Women's Studies. If one of the committee members is not a member of the Women's Studies faculty, the student must submit a request explaining why the faculty member is appropriate, including a copy of the faculty.

Women's studies is an academic field that draws on feminist and interdisciplinary methods in order to place women’s lives and experiences at the center of study, while examining social and cultural constructs of gender; systems of privilege and oppression; and the relationships between power and gender as they intersect with other identities and social locations such as race, sexual.

Master’s Program in Women and Gender Studies (MWGS) We are delighted to welcome the ninth cohort of Master’s students in Women and Gender Studies to the University of Toronto (UofT). The courses taken by our M.A. students provide them with an opportunity to undertake advanced feminist studies towards theorizing these questions.

The goal of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies graduate program is to create new knowledges, concepts and theories as they relate to diverse gendered and sexual identities and experiences, through the study and application of critical feminist theory, masculinities studies, queer and sexualities studies, and cultural and transnational studies.

The Cultural Studies Department at Trent University extends its groundbreaking approach to the field with its Ph.D. program, the first free-standing Ph.D. in Cultural Studies program in Canada. The program provides students with the freedom to pursue their field of interest within a context of interdisciplinary integration. Dissertation proposals that embrace research creation are welcome.

Upon completion of all degree requirements in the coordinating department, as well as the courses listed below, the Graduate Option in Gender and Women's Studies (GWS) will appear on the student's transcript along with the designated graduate degree (MA or PhD). The Option was developed by the Women's Studies Program in response to needs expressed by the Graduate Group for Feminist Scholarship.
